The problem this solves

Anyone working in English language teaching has to track two separate streams: academic journals that publish slowly and scattered across publishers, and industry news spread over the blogs of individual organisations. Checking each source by hand costs time and still misses things. ResearchTrend pulls both streams into a single feed and summarises each item so you can decide whether the full text is worth your time.

How it works

1. 1Every day the system queries all of the sources below for new material.
2. 2Duplicate records are dropped, including cases where the same paper carries two different DOIs.
3. 3A language model reads the original abstract, rewrites it briefly, assigns topic tags and scores how relevant the item is.
4. 4Results appear on the feed straight away, then get reviewed and pinned or hidden by hand where it helps.

Currently tracking 10 sources. This list is read from the live configuration, so it always matches what the system actually queries.

What to keep in mind

Summaries are written by AI and can diverge from the original, so please do not cite them in academic work. Treat this feed as a filter: it tells you what deserves reading, and the reading and citing happen on the original. The site stores only titles, original abstracts and links back to the source — never full text.

Privacy

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which items get read, which is what informs decisions about adding sources. It sets a cookie in your browser and records general data such as pages viewed, time of visit, country and device type. There are no reader accounts, the site never asks for a name or an email, and it collects no other identifying information. If you would rather not be counted, a tracker-blocking extension will stop it — the site works exactly the same when blocked.

Acknowledgements

This project only exists because of open scholarly infrastructure. OpenAlex opens up metadata for hundreds of millions of works at no cost, with no query limits and no commercial strings attached. Crossref maintains the DOI system that almost the whole of academic publishing relies on to identify and link work. Without these two non-profits, a small project like ResearchTrend could not reach research data at this scale. Our thanks to them and to the people who keep them running.
